Exceeding Eye Care Expectations
Dr. Daniel Quon has spent the past 33 years dedicated to enhancing his patientsí vision to its maximum capability. His South Coast Optometry practice is blossoming, becoming known as the destination for advanced vision care in Orange County. It was only natural after Quon read about the Z-View® Aberrometer in a medical journal in December 2004 for him to decide this new technology fit into his vision for the future of his practice.
"When I purchased the Z-View, the iZon® Lenses were not yet available," Quon said. "As soon as I began using the Z-View in my patient exams, I knew the lenses manufactured from this technology would most likely exceed those offered by competitors."
As an early adopter of the technology, Quon knew he would have to raise awareness of the brand through proactive marketing to his community. He purchased the Z-View because he felt it was a technology that would drive patients into his office, especially once the lenses became available. Quon was focused on enhancing the quality eye care his practice always provided and on giving patients the best vision correction available.
"Once the iZon Lenses became available, we really started spreading the word, first with our own staff and patients," Quon said. "Knowing that Orange County residents seek out the best life has to offer, we then reached out to the community through our Web site and some local advertising."
Every exam at South Coast Optometry begins with a scan on the Z-View Aberrometer, whether the patient wears eyeglasses or contact lenses. Quon and his staff then walk the patient through the resulting iPrint™, a unique mapping of the lower and higher order aberrations in the patientís eyes, and discuss the benefits of iZon Lenses with each individual.
"Once we explain how the technology works and the benefits that can be experienced with the lenses, people understand why we are telling them this is the best technology on the market," Quon said. "The patients then come back in wearing their iZon Lenses and raving to us how their vision has improved more than they believed possible."
South Coast Optometry has had many great successes with patients who were struggling with their vision before trying the iZon Lenses.
Quon shared the story of a 72-year-old man who had been successfully wearing trifocals for 20 years. The patient was devastated when he failed the DMV test because of his 20/50 vision through trifocals.
Driving played a huge part in this man's life. As a retiree, he treasured his regular weekly errands and felt he would lose independence without a license, the patient told Quon. "At first, he was resistant to switching to a progressive lens after wearing trifocals for 20 years, but finally agreed to try the iZon brand of progressive lenses. After a very brief period of adaptation, he went right to the DMV and passed the eye test."
Stories like this one are plentiful when Quon is talking about his practiceís use of iZon Lenses. He has had many patients who are still in need of vision correction post-LASIK. One such patient came into Quonís office with night vision so poor she could no longer drive after sunset.
"This patient had conventional LASIK before the wavefront guided 'custom LASIK' procedure became available. The Z-View scan indicated she had a lot of higher order aberrations that were causing glare so severe that the two headlights of an oncoming car at night would merge into one huge starbust," Quon said. "We fitted her with a pair of single-vision iZon Lenses and she is again on the road at night with vastly improved spatial and depth perception."
While this patient knew she was struggling with her night vision, Quon believes there are countless patients who are unaware of how much they could benefit from iZon Lenses. The iZon Lenses deliver the benefit of high-definition vision, both day and night.
Another of Quon's patients delivers the Orange Country Register in the early morning, when it is still dark. While he experienced extreme glares and halos from car headlights, he believed it was normal to have these issues while wearing his glasses – until he mentioned them to his delivery partner and learned that his halos were dramatically worse.
"I have seen many patients who had no idea how severe their higher order aberrations were and how that affects their ability to see clearly," Quon said. "One of my goals is to educate patients about these refractive errors and provide each individual with the best lenses that can address their specific needs."
Quon's message to other eye care practitioners about the iZon Lenses is a simple one.
"We all want the best vision possible for our patients," he said. "The Z-View Aberrometer and iZon Lenses are one of optometryís best technologies to use when building a practice because, compared to the competition, the products have the capability of exceeding patient expectations for what is possible in conventional vision correction."
